Only names of American and/or European descent are likely to be in our database. Names that are not of American/European descent or are artificially created will not be in our database, and will have an origin of "unique". If we encounter a name that comes back as being "unique", we will, at no extra charge, conduct a basic search of the Internet to determine the origin of the name, if possible. If a name comes back with a "Unique" origin and a history can't be found on the Internet, the software automatically creates flattering attributes for the name.

NOTE ABOUT COMPOUND NAMES: If you (or the gift recipient) have a compound name, such as Ann-Margaret, Jim-Bob, or Mary-Kate, the origin will be based on the first part of the compound name. Thus, for Ann-Margaret, the name meaning will be based on Ann. This will also be the case for any compound name that is not separated by a hyphen or space. Even though the meaning is based on the first part of the name, the name will still be printed according to how you enter it in the Gift Spelling box.
